In the team's home opener on Saturday, the Flyers scored eight goals in total, including three in each the second and third periods. After a game like that, it didn't seem possible that the Flyers could do any better.
They scored four goals in the second period on Tuesday. While the final total in this game was only five goals, it doesn't take away from the fact that the Flyers are certainly off to a soaring start on home ice, especially after a 5-1 win over the Florida Panthers.

Postgame Points
- The top line just keeps rolling. Sean Couturier scored another goal, his fourth of the season. Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist, bringing him up to four goals and nine points on the season. His assist was also the 400th of his career, joining Bobby Clarke, Brian Propp and Bill Barber as the only Flyers to reach that milestone in the Orange and Black.
Jake Voracek also added another assist for his 10th of the season. So far, everything is clicking with this group, especially as many started to wonder just what this trio was capable of as individuals. Collectively, they are lighting it up as a unit so far.
- There's an entire section dedicated to this later, but the pass from Nolan Patrick to Dale Weise on the Flyers fourth goal cannot be seen enough right now.
Patrick has shown the ability to be a responsible player and the points will come with time. His second career assist was simply stellar, especially for a 19-year-old.
- This was a big game for Michal Neuvirth. It was a bit surprising to see Brian Elliott get the start on Saturday in the home opener, but Neuvirth didn't look like the break affected him much. He was also certainly not underworked, making 40 saves in his first win of the season.
- For as good as the first line has looked, it's been even better watching Shayne Gostisbehere return to form. Gostisbehere scored his first goal of the season in the win and added an assist to bring his points total to 10. When the Flyers game came to an end, that was tops among NHL defensemen on the season to this point.
- The game didn't come without a few blemishes. The Flyers lacked some jump and crispness in their play early in the first period. Much like Saturday's game, once they were able to turn things on and get to another level with their speed and puck possession, they took control.
The other blemish came in the form of injury. Wayne Simmonds left the game with a lower-body injury. GM Ron Hextall announced after the game that it was for precautionary reasons and the team will know more in the next day or two. Still, it's an early-season scare for the Flyers and Simmonds, especially with the Flyers in the middle of such a strong stretch of play for the team as a whole.

By the Numbers
A strong first period by the Panthers gave them the strong puck possession numbers overall for the game at even strength. Florida had a 57.78 CF% for the game, but just slightly over 50 percent after a commanding 65.63 CF% in the first period.
Stat of the Game
Florida didn't shy away from firing the puck, and the Flyers defensemen were up to the task. Radko Gudas blocked five shots. Robert Hagg and Ivan Provorov each had four blocked shots. Brandon Manning had three blocked shots. Collectively, the Flyers finished with 22 blocked shots in the game, not to mention the 41 that made it through on Michal Neuvirth.
