Flyers defenseman Evgeny Medvedev sat out Monday's game as a healthy scratch, the first time the Russian blue liner missed a game this season.

At the time, GM Ron Hextall explained the decision, calling it an adjustment to the North American game. Turns out, it may be something else.

Hextall announced that Medvedev is traveling back to Philadelphia for further evaluation. He will be out of the lineup on Tuesday and most likely the remainder of the road trip.

Medvedev has one assist in 10 games with the Flyers after recording five points in six preseason games.

There is no corresponding move for Medvedev's injury — Brandon Manning will remain in the lineup — and more will be learned on his condition later in the week.

The Flyers are currently in Edmonton for a game on Tuesday night, as they attempt to snap a four-game losing streak. The opening face-off is set for 9 p.m.
