So much of this season and the recent hot streak for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms has been about the newcomers to the team this season. Several of the newcomers helped contribute to a sixth-straight win on Sunday.

The Phantoms completed a three-in-three sweep and claimed their sixth straight win with a 3-1 victory over the Hershey Bears at Giant Center in Hershey.

Both teams killed of penalties in a scoreless first period. Both goalies were active, as Alex Lyon faced 10 shots in the first and the Phantoms fired 12 shots on Vitek Vanecek.

It took until 7:27 of the second period for the Phantoms to finally get on the board. Radel Fazleev fed Greg Carey on the doorstep and he tried to tuck it home. Vanecek made the save and a scramble ensued as both Fazleev and Chris Conner put chances on goal. Conner's sat in the crease and hit the skate of Darren Deitz and went through the legs of Vanecek and in to put the Phantoms on top first.

The Phantoms padded the lead at 17:30. A clearing attempt by the Bears was stopped along the wall by Reece Willcox, who fired a shot high and under the bar to beat Vanecek and extend the lead to two at the end of two periods.

Lyon was stellar in the second, facing 14 shots, including several testers, and stopping all of them.

The Bears did finally solve Lyon in the third. At 2:51, Paul Carey out-raced Maxim Lamarche to a loose puck and put the puck on Lyon, who attempted to poke check the puck to the boards. The puck bounced high in the air as the sticks collided and landed in the slot. Travis Boyd was there to knock it into an empty net as Lyon could not locate the rebound and the lead was cut to one.

Lyon stood tall from there, answering the call on every Bears chance. Late in the period, with a power play, the Phantoms put the game away for good.

With 21 seconds remaining, Will O'Neill got the puck off a face-off and beat Vanecek with a slap shot to the glove side to make it 3-1 and seal the win.

The late power play was one of three chances for the Phantoms in the game, as they went 1-for-3 on the man advantage. Hershey outshot the Phantoms, 12-7, in the final period.

Lyon was the star of the game, making 35 saves on 36 shots to pick up his second win of the weekend.

The Phantoms are next on the ice on Wednesday night to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at PPL Center. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
