Preview: Eagles wrap up season against Dallas

By: Jesse Larch, Sports Talk Philly editor

Entering week 17 the Eagles will have nothing to play for, having clinched the number one seed in the NFC and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Eagles will give the starters some time but Doug Pederson has no intention of leaving them in for the whole game.

Important Dress Rehearsal for Nick Foles

Nick Foles greatly reduced the fans' expectations for him after having a horrific showing against the Oakland Raiders. Although the Eagles won the game Foles did nothing to help.

Foles completed 19 of 38 passes for 163 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

After the dismal performance Foles will need to go out on Sunday and show that he is more like the quarterback who torched the New York Giants for four touchdowns on 63.1% passing than the one who failed to build any momentum last week.

Get the backups playing time

As important as it is for the starters to keep their continuity with a first round bye coming up in the playoffs, it is equally important for the backups to get used to an NFL game in the event of an injury, especially the ones who have never played in one – namely Nate Sudfeld and Sidney Jones

Sudfeld has spent half the season on the Eagles practice squad and was promoted to the 53-man roster to prevent another NFL team from signing him. Clearly the Eagles see something worth developing in Sudfeld, but the fact remains that the now back-up quarterback has never played in an NFL game. It is imperative that Sudfeld gets used to the speed of an NFL game before the playoff in case Nick Foles goes down and Sudfeld's number gets called

This game will also be the first NFL game for second-round pick Sidney Jones. Jones has the potential to be a shutdown cornerback in the NFL, and fans will get a glimpse of their rookie with the highest ceiling.

Injury Report

The Eagles have listed Brandon Graham as out for this game to not risk the defensive captain from getting banged up ahead of the playoffs after suffering an injury against the Oakland Raiders.

Jalen Mills is listed as questionable with an ankle injury. The Eagles placed linebacker Joe Walker on injured reserve to make room for Sidney Jones to join the roster. Jones could get some of Mills's snaps if he cannot go.

The Cowboys will be without left tackle Tyron Smith, cornerback Orlando Scandrick, defensive end David Irving, linebacker Benson Mayowa, and wide receiver Cole Beasley.

The Cowboys have listed tackle La'el Collins and defensive tackle Richard Ash as questionable.
