The new year arrives in less than 48 hours and on the schedule for January is a weekend break where the best in the NHL this season will gather at the All-Star Game in St. Louis. The Flyers will have a fresh face there.
Travis Konecny will be the Flyers representative at the NHL All-Star Game on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Konecny is in his fourth NHL season and will make his first All-Star appearance. He has 11 goals and 34 points this season in 36 games played.
The NHL All-Star Game will officially kick off on Friday night when the All-Stars participate in the Skills Competition. That event will be on Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. The next night, Konecny will join the rest of the Metropolitan Division All-Stars in a 3-on-3 tournament. That will also begin at 8 p.m.
The rest of the Metropolitan Division All-Stars are as follows:
Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin was voted as captain, but opted to skip the All-Star Game. He will serve a one-game suspension as a result.
Additionally, each team has one player up for voting as the last man in. Claude Giroux is the option for the Flyers and will go up against Teuvo Teravainen (CAR), Nick Foligno (CBJ), Nico Hischier (NJ), Brock Nelson (NYI), Mika Zibanejad (NYR), Kris Letang (PIT), and T.J. Oshie (WSH). Voting takes place starting on New Year’s Day and runs through Jan. 10.
