Report: Saric Wanted to Join Sixers This Summer

There were rumors earlier this summer that the Sixers were trying to bring 2014 1st Round draft pick Dario Saric over to join the team. Apparently is wasn't just the Sixers that wanted that to happen. A report from Basketball Insiders suggests that Saric himself really wants out of his contract with Turkish club Anadolu Efes.

“Saric told people he wanted to join Philadelphia now, but couldn’t because his contract had no out-clause,” a source told Basketball Insiders.

Despite the Sixers’ late push to bring him over as soon as possible, negotiations with Turkish finalist Anadolu Efes failed to materialize. Saric is handcuffed overseas until 2016, but it was clear, sources familiar with his wishes said, that he wanted to join Philadelphia.

I asked Saric for his thoughts about moving to the U.S. and the situation with his Turkish club.

“It’s really hard for me to answer that,” Saric said. “I can’t comment.”

Regardless of who wants what, the regulations (outlined nicely here by Derek Bodner) governing both Saric's Turkish contract as well as the amount of money NBA clubs can contribute to any possible foreign player buyout really handcuffs all parties involved. At the least, it's nice to know that Saric is thinking of us.
