The NBPA already announced earlier today that Philadelphia 76ers own Joel Embiid had been awarded the comeback player of the year award and best social media follow. Now they've announced TJ McConnell has won the best teammate award as voted on by the Sixers players.
McConnell put up solid numbers last season once he became the Sixers primary point guard, averaging 6.9 points, 6.6 assists , and 3.1 rebounds in 26 minutes per game. Not stellar numbers by any means, but he became a fan favorite in Philly nonetheless because of his high effort, grit, and positive attitude.
It's easy to see how well liked he is among his teammates because of his antics off the court with various players, especially Dario Saric. But on the court he is one of the most unselfish players in the NBA, accepting any challenge put in front of him and never backing down. Even when given the limelight, McConnell always showed appreciation for the great fans of Philadelphia and gave credit to his teammates for the team's success.
It isn't the biggest or most prestigious award by any means, but it is definitely well deserved.
