Malcolm Jenkins criticizes Eagles coaching philosophy, Chip Kelly responds

The Philadelphia Eagles are going through some tough times right now. In the midst of a three-game losing streak, including two blowout losses, the team has now dropped to 4-7 on the season.

At least one Eagles player is pointing the finger at the coaching staff.

Starting safety Malcolm Jenkins, who signed with the Eagles prior to the start of last season, has noticed possible flaws in Kelly's coaching methods.

"I was kind of from a coaching style, I was brought up a little bit different," Jenkins said after Tuesday's practice, via Matt Lombardo of NJ.com. "Where most mistakes that teammates or players make were brought up more in a team setting. The approach here is more in the individual rooms and that is by design. A lot of the times when things happen on the defensive side of the ball; if the secondary isn't playing well, those mistakes aren't pointed out in front of the entire defense. It's dealt with in the defensive back's room."

"So, a defensive lineman won't necessarily know what the mistakes were or where we need to get better at," Jenkins continued. "For me, I'm a bit of a control freak. I like to know what the mistakes are and where we're trying to get better at. Obviously, Billy (Davis) and the coaching staff feels that's not my place. That's they're right and they handle it a lot differently than I've been used to."

Via Elliot Shorr-Parks, during Wednesday's press conference, Kelly fired back in response to Jenkins's comments.

"Because my right guard doesn't need to hear what my safety needs to hear," Kelly said about position meetings as opposed to team meetings. "Matt Tobin doesn't need to know the instructions for a free safety. So if you want to get detailed instructions, it should be done in position meetings."

The former New Orleans Saints safety is entitled to his opinion, but Chip certainly doesn't agree with what Jenkins is suggesting.

"I don't think anyone is a fan of wasting time," Kelly said. "This is the first time I've heard anyone critique efficiency."

The Eagles will try to get their fifth win of the season on Sunday afternoon against Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The Patriots were undefeated before losing in overtime last week to the Denver Broncos.

Although the Eagles appear to be freefalling, Belichick isn't going to look past them.
