Pete Rose requests baseball reinstatement

All-time Major League Baseball hits leader Pete Rose has filed for reinstatement to baseball.

Rob Manfred, the newly appointed commissioner of the league, spoke out on the subject Monday afternoon.

"I do have a formal request from Pete. What I intend to do is be in communication with his representatives, and we'll talk about how we'll handle it from a process perspective."

It was in August of 1989 that Rose accepted his ban from baseball due to allegations of betting on Major League games.

Several websites and campaigns have been established in hopes of propelling Rose into baseball's Hall of Fame, and reinstatement to the sport would be the first major step in that direction.

Manfred has said from the start that he would openly listen to and communicate with Rose's people regarding his request.
