Pete Rose, one of baseball's most legendary players, has officially been named to one of the Phillies' highest team honors, the Wall of Fame.

The utility man played the outfield, second base, and third base for three teams over 24 seasons. Rose had 826 hits and hit .291 in 745 games in five seasons for the Phils.

Rose was brought to the Phillies in 1979 in hopes to bolster the team to help bring a championship to the city. Rose was a main key for the World Series title won by the team in the 1980 season.

Rose was known for his incredible bat, his hustle, and his impeccable work ethic.

In 1989, Major League Baseball banned Rose for betting on the sport. This barred him from managing, playing, or attending any game in any stadium. Over the past couple years, the rules have loosened a bit, when Rose started to appear on the FOX Pre-Game crew. He was recognized at the 2015 MLB All-Star Game in Cincinnati as one of the Reds' Franchise-Four players.

In an unprecedented move, Rose was named to the Cincinnati Reds Wall of Fame last season after Major League Baseball gave permission to the team to do so. This season, the Phillies received permission from MLB to do the very same.

Rose commented on his induction in a statement released by the Phillies on Monday.

“I am very honored to be inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame.  My baseball years in Philadelphia were amazing, not just because we won it all in 1980 and came close in 1983, but also because the fans welcomed me from day one,” said Rose.  “The team’s great ownership and talented roster attracted me to Philadelphia as a free agent.  I knew we could experience great success.”

On February 9, the Phillies announced that Rose would headline the Wall of Fame ballot, which was voted on by fans. On March 2, it was reported that Rose was in the early lead for the voting.

"Charlie Hustle" will be the Phillies' 39th inductee into the Wall of Fame located in Ashburn Alley. The ceremony is set for August 12.

Perhaps Rose's next call will be from Cooperstown for the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
