Phillies Look to Snap Rockies’ 4-Game Winning Streak Behind Velasquez

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

Looking to snap the Colorado Rockies' (7-12) four-game winning streak, the Philadelphia Phillies (11-7) and RHP Vince Velasquez will oppose four-year veteran RHP German Marquez in the second of a four-game series Friday evening at Coors Field.

In Thursday's 6-2 opener loss, Rockies first baseman Ryan McMahon launched a pair of home runs, totaling five RBI. McMahon had just been activated from the 10-day injured list (sprained left elbow) prior to the game. The Phillies were outhit 11-5, with one of them being J.T. Realmuto's two-run home run to bring the club within just one run in the seventh. The Phillies went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left six on base. Right-hander Zach Eflin suffered the loss, albeit allowing just three runs (two earned) on seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts spanning six innings and 92 pitches (55 strikes). Phillies southpaw reliever Jose Alvarez allowed one run, while right-hander Victor Arano allowed two runs — all in the seventh inning.

The Phillies have lost seven of their last eight games — and five straight — at Coors Field since August 4, 2017, outscored 59-20 and outhit 88-62.
