Eagles-Lions: Sunday Six Pack

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

The long wait of the bye week is over and the Eagles finally make their return to the field on Sunday as they face the Detroit Lions

With the Eagles sitting at 3-0 and riding a high from a dominant Week 3 win over the Steelers, the bye week came at a good and bad time for the Eagles, who got some much needed time to rest and recover while also being off the field for a week as the wave of success and good vibes was put on pause.

But with the team back on the field, they can make a good first showing following the bye week on the journey through the rest of the season.

Here are six players to watch in Sunday's Eagles-Lions matchup.

Brandon Graham – If there is anybody who knows about the Lions, it's defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, the former head coach of the Lions. With the Eagles defense continuing to use attack mode to try to get pressure on the quarterback and force mistakes, look for Graham to be active on the field all day.

Matthew Stafford – The Lions quarterback torched the Eagles for 337 yards and five touchdowns last season, but this is a different Eagles defense. Still, Stafford has the ability to be among the top NFL quarterbacks on any given week. The Lions are likely to go with a pass happy offense, so Stafford will get yardage, but can the Eagles keep him and the Lions out of the endzone?

Wendell Smallwood – The rookie running back saw increased usage in the Week 3 win and a lot of potential to go with it. As the Eagles look to cycle the running game into the playcalling, it will be interesting to see how they rotate running backs. It wouldn't be surprising if Smallwood got more extended usage again.

Marvin Jones – The Lions leading wide receiver has 482 receiving yards in four games and is averaging 21 yards per catch. While the Eagles did a good job containing Alshon Jeffery and Antonio Brown in back to back weeks, Jones is another test for a secondary on the rise.

Zach Ertz – Back from injury, the Eagles tight end, who was a go-to target of Carson Wentz in Week 1, will certainly be a key part of the offense again this week. Establishing early chemistry will add another weapon to the offense that already had success in the first three weeks of the season.

Darius Slay – Slay has been among the most active members of the secondary for the Lions with four passes defended, one sack and 15 tackles in four games. It's been a struggle for Detroit's defense to this point in the season, but Slay has been one of the better players on that side of the ball.
