Lively seeks 1st win opposite Nova, Pirates

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

Right-hander Ben Lively will look for his first win of the season as the Philadelphia Phillies (11-7) face nine-year veteran RHP Ivan Nova and the Pittsburgh Pirates (12-7) Friday evening at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies opened their 10-game homestand with a 7-0 rout of the Pirates, behind a dominating performance from RHP Jake Arrieta. Arrieta improved to 2-0 and became the first Phillies pitcher to record a double-digit strikeout game and allow one hit or fewer since Cole Hamels' July 2015 no-hitter, which was ironically in opposition of Arrieta, per Phillies Manager of Baseball Communications Chris Ware. Rhys Hoskins powered his way to his third home run of the season, while Odubel Herrera and Cesar Hernandez produced two and three additional RBI, respectively. Victor Arano tossed another perfect inning, extending his streak of retiring 32 consecutive batters dating back to Sept. 27, 2017.

A win of Friday would be just the third time since June 2012 that the Phillies won consecutive games against the Pirates, joining June 25-26, 2012, and May 13-14, 2015.
