The Eagles have added another coach to their roster. The team’s newest coach, like head coach Doug Pederson, has previously served as a backup quarterback for the Eagles.

According to Bruce Feldmen of Fox Sports, who also writes about college football for The Athletic, reported Monday that the Eagles will add G.J. Kinne as an offensive assistant for the 2019 season.

Kinne spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons on the Eagles practice squad. He spent the following two seasons on the Giants practice squad. He never played a meaningful snap in the league.

While he was never on the active roster, he did what he could to help the team. He lined up at any position that was needed in practice. He even converted to a wide receiver in 2015 in an attempt to break the active roster and contribute.

That kind of ability and knowledge of the game combined with his selflessness lends itself well to coaching. Though he retired in 2016, he has already served as a coach for both SMU and Arkansas.

His exact position has not yet been made official, but he will likely work with the quarterbacks given his history. Current Eagles quarterback coach Press Taylor may be moving on – his brother, Zac, was named the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.

Kinne joins Roy Istvan and Matt Burke as the new coaches on the staff for the 2019 season.
