Final: Philadelphia 1, Boston 0 ❖
PHILADELPHIA — Nick Pivetta pitched a season-high 7.0 innings of shutout baseball, but the Phillies struggled to score early as well. Boston posed a threat to Pat Neshek, who replaced Pivetta in the eighth inning. Chris Sale led off the top of the eighth inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on a fly ball to right off the bat of Mookie Betts. With one out and the go-ahead runner on third, Neshek struck out Dustin Pedroia and got Xander Bogaerts to pop up to escape the inning with no harm done.
The Phillies were able to strike for some offense in the bottom of the eighth to take a late 1-0 lead, which they were able to hold onto for their first victory since June 6.
The Phillies will open a three-game series with the Diamondbacks tomorrow.
